The women in Diphu also joined the statewide protests by women against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across Assam on Saturday.
The women protestors raised their voices against the CAA through a sit-in-demonstration in front of Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park at Diphu.
The all-women sit-in protest was organised by the Karbi Anglong District Regional Students’ Union and Diphu Regional Students’ Union.

The protest programme was participated by a large number of women from various walks of life and organizations.
Participating in the sit-in protest, Karbi Anglong District Mahila Congress Committee (KADMCC) president Kasang Terangpi urged the women to come out of their homes to oppose the Act.
Attacking the BJP government, KADMCC president Terangpi said, “The BJP promised they would fulfil all the promises made during the elections, but now instead of fulfilling those promise, they have created numerous problems for the public.”
“Because of the CAA, different parts of Assam including Karbi Anglong are burning,” Terangpi added.

She also said, “Last Saturday, Assam BJP president Ranjeet Dass said those involved in the CAA movement are all hen, duck and egg sellers. But here, there are no hen, duck or egg sellers. All those present here have the blood of Assamese and Karbis.”
“It is not the hen, duck or egg sellers, but the artists, intellectuals, senior citizens, women, and youth who have come out to protest.”
“Dass should feel ashamed of speaking such irrelevant words. He has become blind as he could not make out who are protesting. He should go for treatment to regain his eyesight,” Terangpi added.
She said Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang and MP Horensing Bey have no sympathy for the people of Assam and Karbi Anglong.
She attacked Sonowal and Sarma for stating that if the CAB is implemented, there would be no impact on the Assamese people.
“But 2.50 crore Bengalis from Bangladesh are ready to come to Assam. We cannot accept the CAA and until it is repealed, the movement will continue,” she added.
The Karbi literary body, Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) said the CAA is against the Constitution and is contravening the Assam Accord.
In a memorandum to BJP national president Amit Shah, the KLA said if Assam has to bear more illegal migrants, it would be fatal for the state.
The KLA is of the view that the CAA is against the interests of the indigenous people of Assam.
