Normalcy has returned to Dibrugarh district with no untoward incident has been reported in the last 24 hours.
The curfew was relaxed for six hours in the municipal area of upper Assam’s Dibrugarh from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
The Nagarik Samaj on Saturday gathered at Chowkidinghee area in protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019.
Former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Prof Nagen Saikia appealed to the people to protest in a peaceful manner against the CAA.

“India is a secular state and there should not be any discrimination on caste, creed, and religion. The CAA is against the people of Assam because it is meant for one religion. I appeal to everyone to maintain peace and harmony,” Saikia said.
The Amendment Act seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have migrated to India after facing persecution on grounds of religion in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh if they fulfil conditions for grant of citizenship.
Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said in the last 24 hours, no incident of violence has been reported in the district.

“There was a rumour that a man was killed after security forces lathi-charged on him but it is false. The man was a drug addict,” Jha said.
Dijender Panging (32) of Dibrugarh died on Friday.
After his death, rumours spread that he was badly beaten by security force personnel due to which he had died.
Security forces personnel have been keeping strict vigil in the sensitive areas of Dibrugarh.
The Army has been carrying out flag march to maintain law and order situation.
After the curfew was relaxed, people thronged the ATMs to withdraw cash as the people of Dibrugarh have witnessed shut down for the last six days.
“The law and order situation is under control in Dibrugarh. No untoward incident has been reported on Saturday. Security forces are carrying out flag marches in Dibrugarh district. We hope that curfew will be withdrawn very soon,” said a police official.
No untoward incident has also been reported in Tinsukia district.
Law and order situation is under control in the district.
“Curfew has not been imposed in our district. Normalcy is returning but we are having a tough time due to unavailability of cash. Some ATMs have been opened but there is no cash,” said Amit Agarwalla, a resident of Tinsukia.
No violence and untoward incident have been reported from districts like Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, and Sivasagar.
