Kamrup (M) district administration on Wednesday imposed curfew in Guwahati following the unprecedented protests against CAB, which turned violent as protesters set ablaze around five vehicles in the city.

The curfew has been imposed from 6:15 pm on Wednesday to Thursday 6:15 am.

The district administration has also clamped section 144 or the CrPC.

Protesters in huge numbers hit the streets of Guwahati on Wednesday raising slogans against the state government and the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Protesters gathered in front of the Assam Secretariat and raised slogans like “Joi Ai Asom”, “BJP Murdabad”.

Once again, the students burnt tyres around Dispur and shouted slogans.

“Aahoi-aah, ulai aah (come one, come all..),” the anthem of Assam Agitation, rent the streets once again.

Police resorted to lathi-charge, used water cannons and fired tear gas shells, still could not bring the situation under control for several hours.
