A joint effort and participation of all communities at all levels is required to create awareness and eradicate HIV/AIDS from Manipur.

This was disclosed by Manipur health and family welfare minister L Jayantakumar Singh while addressing the World AIDS day observation in Imphal on Sunday.

Education minister Th Radheshyam Singh, commissioner (Health) V Vumlunmang, project director Haobam Rosita of Manipur State Aids Control Society and other senior officials also attended the observation.

Sharing the information that the rank of Manipur in the graph of HIV/AIDS record in this country has been declined from previous years, minister Jayentakumar said, this has been made possible with the dedicated and sincere efforts of the NGOs and volunteers working in this field at different levels.

Appreciating the contributions made by those volunteers and NGOs and wished a bright future, he informed that human resource development is so important in a society and potential of the HIV victims cannot be ignored.

Their well being and social status are needed to be protected and boosted so that social stigma be stayed far away from those patients who have HIV/AIDS,he added.

He also assured that Department of AYUSH, Manipur will be assigned to provide food and nutritional support to the HIV/AIDS victims.

Echoing a similar sentiment, education minister Radheshyam whiel speaking at the function stated that a joint effort involving all communities to eradicate HIV/ AIDS is need of the hour.

He also observed that a survey to identify more serious HIV families needs to be sorted out by the concerned parties as the problem of HIV/ AIDS is also one of the major problems being faced in the State.

Prior to the day’s state level observation, a motorcycle and bicycle rally were also flagged off by health and family welfare minister L Jayantakumar Singh from the western gate of Kangla fort in Imphal.

There are also reports of observing World AIDS day at many parts of the State.
