The Naga National Council (Parent Body) at a meeting on Thursday resolved to stand for unity of the Naga nation in the best interest of Naga people.
The organization also called all the Naga groups to sit across the table to work out the best possible unity in the interest of Naga national workers.
The NNC adopted a three-point resolution at its general meeting in Wokha.
The meeting resolved to stand for political solution with “Naga national unity” in the interest of Naga people as one people and one homeland.
Deliberating on the NNC’s journey and struggle for the Naga political settlement, the meeting focussed on Naga national unity as priority.
During the open discussion, the members expressed their views for Naga unity.
Both NNC president Yillow Humtsoe and general secretary Vizosielhou Nagi said the Nagas will fight together for their rights.
Humtsoe presided over the meeting which was attended by Angami, Yimchunger, Sumi, Ao and Rengma regions of NNC, comprising more than 200 members, while Zeliang, Phom and Konyak regions could not make it due to travel inconveniences but they sent their greetings, a release said.
When the struggle for India’s independence moved towards its final stage, the Nagas under the leadership of charismatic AZ Phizo formed the Naga National Council (NNC).
And eventually, the NNC declared independence for the Nagas on August 14, 1947, just one day before India achieved independence.
The NNC conducted a referendum in May 1951 which it claimed to have the backing of almost 99.9 per cent of the Nagas for full independence.
