Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal in discussion with the Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay in Guwahati

Global investors’ summit ‘Advantage Assam’, currently underway in Guwahati will be pushing for ‘pollution-free industrialization’ along the lines of Bhutan, the most carbon negative country in the world.

The main focus of the industrial summit is to have negligible carbon footprint on the environment.

Speaking to the media, Assam Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said, “The current government of Assam has been trying to champion the rapid industrial needs of the state all the while being a firm opponent of industries producing excess pollution. The state, thus, has crafted an industrial design to enable the industries with technologies so as to help them have negligible carbon output.”

He also pointed out that the 12 focus sectors for ‘Advantage Assam’ are mostly pollution free sectors such as IT and ITES, Tourism, Handloom and Textiles, Power, Agriculture and Food Processing, Bamboo, Inland Water Transport and Civil Aviation.
