Kazakhstan Ambassador to India Yerlan Alimbayev called on Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Wednesday.

They talked on a gamut of issues of bilateral interests.

Prof Mukhi gave a snapshot of all potential areas where Assam and Kazakhstan can collaborate for the mutual interests of both the geographical entities.

The Governor also said Assam has rich potential in the fields of tea, tourism, water ways and information technology.

He also said Guwahati the gateway to South East Asian countries is one of the most important business and commercial centres, which can play a lead role in bolstering the bilateral relations between Assam and Kazakhstan.

He also drew the attention of the Kazakh envoy to the potential of food processing industry in Assam and invited Kazakhstan’s involvement to reap dividends for the mutual benefits of both Assam and Kazakhstan.

Hailing the sprawling tea gardens in Assam and their products the taste of which is second to none, the Kazakh envoy said that Assam tea is very popular in Kazakhstan.

He also said a delegation from Kazakhstan would come and visit the tea gardens along with other sectors to launch the bilateral trade relations.

Prof Mukhi also acknowledged the Kazakhstan envoy’s gesture of visiting Assam as he said that both the geographical entities should keep working to strengthen bilateral relations to reap mutual benefits.
