The Joint Committee for Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) on Monday called 18-hour all Nagaland shutdown from 6 pm on Tuesday to protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The CAB is likely to be tabled in the Winter session of the Parliament, which began on Monday.

The shutdown has been called at the direction of the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) which asked all its state federating organisations to initiate a united mode of agitation to oppose the passage of this “genocidal Bill”.

JCPI convenor K. Ghokheto Chopi and secretary Tia Longchar requested all shops and business establishments to down their shutters during the period.

The committee also requested all citizens of the state to extend their full cooperation, saying once this Bill becomes an Act, it will change the demography of the north eastern states forever.
