Assam’s Kaliabor Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday staged a protest outside Parliament against rising levels of air pollution in New Delhi.

Gogoi wore an anti-pollution mask and staged a protest in front of Mahatma’s Gandhi statue outside Parliament.

He said that he want prime minister Narendra Modi to come up with a new law for controlling air pollution as the old law is from 1981 and is quite outdated.

Gogoi will introduce a private member’s bill proposing amendments in the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 during the he winter session of the Parliament.

The winter session will commence on November 18 and continue till December 13.

He had earlier said his first aim is to highlight that air pollution is a health issue.

“Nowhere in the Act is it mentioned that it is a health issue. So we will put it right there. A main component of the bill will be to give more control to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB),” Gogoi had said.
