The deputy commissioner of Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh Prince Dhawan has called upon the students to stop running after government jobs and take a pledge to become self-employed instead.
Dhawan, who was addressing the 30th College Day celebrations of the Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC) at Tezu on Tuesday, said that he expects the students of the State to be job givers and not job seekers.
“Always dream big and connect the dots, work with better people and develop an ethical life,” he said.
“Respect your elders and inculcate patience. Most importantly keep on standing never give up in life,” Dhawan told the students.
Citing examples of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, the deputy commissioner, further asked the students to attend classes to gain knowledge and not only for a degree.
Dhawan also lauded the efforts of the college community for taking the institution to new heights of academic excellence during the past 30 years.
Assistant commissioner Sunny Singh who attended the function as guest of honour advised the students to be careful while selecting careers and imitate the style of accomplished personalities.
Earlier, Dr Kangki Megu, principal of the college welcomed the dignitaries and sought the support of all stakeholders to make IGGC an education hub in eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
IGGC Students’ Union general secretary, Rangay Pul drew the attention of the deputy commissioner towards the basic problems of the students as well as the institution.
Besides several literary events, the annual mega event of the college would also host games and sports and cultural competitions.
