Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma has congratulated marathon runner Batsrang Sangma for winning the first position in the Mawkyrwat Ultra 2019.
Batsrang A Sangma, a 22-year-old under-graduate from Garo Hills in Meghalaya drew attention of all by coming second in the Guwahati Half Marathon held on August 25, 2019.

In the third edition of Mawkyrwat Ultra 2019, a marathon race, held recently, Batsrang participated in the 45 km category.
Crossing all hurdles, he was able to defeat the seasoned and more experienced marathon runners in Meghalaya.
Congratulating Batsrang for his determination, chief minister Conrad Sangma said on his Twitter handle, “Congratulations to Batsrang Sangma for bagging the first place at the #MawkyrwatUltra2019 In the 45 Km category beating seasoned marathoners from the State.”

“His grit and determination has won him huge respect from everyone,” the CM added.
Batsrang hails from a small village, named Tebronggre, in West Garo Hills of Meghalaya.
He is already a name to reckon with in amateur running across the country.
Earlier this year, he had won the third edition of the Delhi Half Marathon in the non-elite (amateur, 18-25) category.
Meanwhile, the organizers of Mawkyrwat Ultra 2019, RunMeghalaya, thanked the Meghalaya Tourism department for extending financial support to the event for the last three years.
“This event is special because of the responsible tourism it has created through the event but also a new running tourism model where any runner at anytime who wishes to train in Mawkyrwat with these natural born runners can do so,” said RunMeghalaya.
The Mawkyrwat Ultra takes place in Shngimawlein village which is situated in the interiors of Meghalaya and is perched on top of a hill at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district.
