Awami League MP Tamanna Nusrat allegedly paid the lookalikes to pretend to be her in at least 13 tests.

A woman MP of Bangladesh has been expelled from university after allegedly hiring lookalikes to sit for exams in her place.

Ruling Awami League MP Tamanna Nusrat allegedly paid the lookalikes to pretend to be her in at least 13 tests, reports Al Jazeera.

The incident came to light after reporters of a TV entered a test hall and confronted one of the women posing as Nusrat.

A video of the incident went viral on social media.

Nusarat was studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree with the Bangladesh Open University (BOU).

She was elected to the parliament last year.

BOU vice chancellor MA Mannan said Nusarat was expelled as she has committed a crime.

“We have cancelled her enrolment. She will never be able to get admitted here again,” Mannan told reporters.

Locals said the proxy students were protected by the MP’s musclemen when they sat for the tests.
