Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district has come up with an innovative concept of launching a classroom in an old and abandoned bus for solving the issue of shortage of space in school buildings.

The classroom has been properly equipped with all the basic amenities like chairs, tables, board and stationery items.

As per reports, lack of space in most schools in the state has made teachers take classes for students of different age groups together in a single room.

With a number of junior students being made to sit next to their seniors in a class and then imparted lessons simultaneously by a teacher, the school dropout rates have been surging higher in the state.

Lohit deputy commissioner Prince Dhawan said that the ‘school on bus’ idea has aroused the interest of school students of a government school at Thowang village and they are quite eager to attend classes on the bus.

“The initiative has not just solved the problem of space crunch, albeit temporarily, but it also infused an element of fun and interactive learning,” he added.

Moreover, the exterior of the bus has also been decked up in an attractive manner.

The exterior of the bus has paintings of the political map of India, animal and human anatomy.

Dhawan said that many students were seen exploring the mobile classroom after school hours.

The district administration is planning to refurbish old buses to set up more classrooms and promote fun learning to bring back school drop outs back in the temples of learning.

It may be mentioned that the primary school dropout in the state was found to be 23.25 per cent according to a 2016-17 survey.
