The Meghalaya Youth Congress (MYC) urged the deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills to take measures for solving several issues including poor mobile network and potholes on the main roads in Tura.
A letter issued on Monday by Richard M. Marak, president and Gamrik K. Sangma, secretary of the Meghalaya Youth Congress (MYC), has been submitted to the deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills.
“Though the general public is being charged for the use of the services by the mobile service providers, namely Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea, it can be seen that the public is not given the service that is being paid for,” the MYC said in the letter.
The organization has urged the DC to take the mobile operators to task.
The letter said, “With bad network, call drops, and almost non-existent 4G services, the public are being made to suffer and then pay for their own suffering.”
“We request that you take the mobile operators to task so that they give the service promised,” it added.
The letter also said of late “a lot of potholes” have been observed in the main roads of Tura and these are either made to remain as it is or “filled with mud”.
Tura is the district headquarters of West Garo Hills and gateway to Garo Hills.
“It is such a disgrace that too being the headquarters of Garo Hills and the constituency of the present Chief Minister.”
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma represents the South Tura Assembly constituency.
“Please ensure that the potholes on the main roads are repaired with permissible materials at the earliest and not with mud,” the MYC urged the W Garo Hills DC.
Stating that laying of pipelines is going on all over the Tura town, the letter said, “It can be seen that these are being done over the footpaths thereby inconveniencing the pedestrians.”
“If the pedestrians cannot use the footpaths, then they would be forced to use the roads to walk which would prove to be very dangerous,” it added.
The MYC also said the traffic situation in Tura is getting from “bad to worse”.
The organization urged the W Garo Hills DC to enforce the traffic rules strictly.
“Rule-breakers like underage driving, unlicensed driving of commercial vehicles (like autos/pickups, etc.), overtaking from the left which is also becoming a trend among auto drivers, rash driving by drivers of Sumos, Xylos, dumper trucks, pick-ups, ML01 and ML02 or other govt./police vehicles, use of illegal white LED headlamps in vehicles, etc. be penalized,” it said.
The organization hoped that strict enforcement of traffic rules only can bring the traffic in order.
