Three days of pulsating contest between 17 NITs of the country for two sporting disciplines, table tennis and yoga, came to an end on Sunday evening, with shared honours for these engineering students.

While, NIT Raipur clinched the champions trophy both for men and woman in team event of yoga, the Runners up trophy both for men and women went to NIT Kurukshetra.

In the team event for table tennis, NIT Allahabad defeated NIT Warangal to lift the champions’ trophy for men, while, NIT Surathkal defeated hosts NIT Silchar in the women’s team event.

In the doubles for men and women table tennis, NIT Warangal defeated NIT Silchar to be the champions in men’s category, while, NIT Jaipur handed a similar result to hosts NIT Silchar in the women’s section to lift the trophy.

To give away the prizes, the organizers of this All India Inter NIT meet, invited former bronze medalist in shooting in Seoul Asian Games, Joydeep Das, and boxer from Assam’s Udalguri, who has won laurels both nationally and internationally, Bhagawati Kachari.

Speaking to Northeast Now, Director of NIT Silchar, Sivaji Bandyopadhay looked pleased for holding a wonderful tourney of these two sporting disciplines, and said, “This is the first of a series of sporting and cultural meets to be held all over the country. We have been able to conduct a great tournament as our infrastructure too has come leaps and bounds to have close to 250 participants and their mentors stay out here comfortably.”

Bandyopadhay added, “Expectations were high for us to do well, but, it is all a part of the game. Last year in NIT Nagpur we were the champions for which got the chance to host this meet out here and we had a great time these three days.”

“We had a round of all the NITs taking part in a plantation drive also on the concluding day of this meet for each of them to remember their visit out here in NIT Silchar,” said, Director, Bandyopadhay.

The winning teams too when quizzed by the waiting journalists, were full of praises for the hosts NIT Silchar to have conducted this tournament without any hitches.
