A high-powered team of the Assam government on Sunday inspected the pipeline burst site of NEEPCO’s 276 MW hydro-electric project at Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
Four persons including three staffers of NEEPCO and another belong to a private firm, went missing after a pipeline to the project burst on Monday last.
The high-powered team, led by Assam hill areas development minister Sum Ronghang, included Autonomous District MP Haren Sing Bey, Bokajan MLA Dr. Numal Momin, Haflong MLA BB Hagjer, Dima Hasao CEM Debolal Gorlosa.

On October 11, Assam chief minister held a meeting with senior officials regarding the NEEPCO Kopili Hydro Electric Project incident at Umrangso.
The CM directed PK Dutta, DIG(SR) to conduct an enquiry into the incident and instructed the high-powered team, led by minister Ronghang, to visit the tragedy site.

As instructed by the Assam chief minister, the team met the people of the area, the family members of the victims, the district and NEPCO authorities.
Informing about the visit of the team to the site, MLA Dr Numal Momin on his Twitter handle on Sunday, said: “As per instruction of hon CM Sarbananda Sonowal, we visited the Umrangso , NEPCO tragedy site today.”
“A team headed by HAD minister and accompanied by CEM Dima Hasao D Garlosa, MLA BB Hadger (sic). Met people, victim family members, district & NEPCO authority,” he added.

It may be mentioned that the missing people have remained traceless even after six days since the incident.
NEEPCO’s independent director Vijay Gupta has reportedly claimed that the mishap at the project in Umrangso might have taken place due to ‘subversive activities’.

On October 10, a team of NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Dima Hasao had a meeting with the officials of NEEPCO, Umrangso for the untraced bodies of 4 employees after the incident of burst.
