Assam’s Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro settled for bronze medals after they were defeated by their opponents in the semifinals of the AIBA World Boxing Championship on Saturday in Russia’s Ulan-Ude.
Lovlina Borgohain, who hails from Assam’s Goalghat district, was defeated by China’s Yang Liu in the 69 kg category in a split decision of 2:3 to end her campaign at the AIBA World Boxing Championship.
However, she was able to won bronze medal for India.

Informing about the results of the semifinal match played by Lovlina, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on its official Twitter handle stated: “#LovlinaBorgohain settles for a bronze medal while she was defeated by China’s Yang Liu in the 69kg category in a split decision of 2:3 to end her campaign at the #AIBAWorldBoxingChampionship. This is her consecutive 3 medal. Congratulation Girl!”

Lovlina Borgohain lost 29-29, 29-28, 27-30, 29-28, 28-29 to Yang Liu.
It may be mentioned that in 2018 edition of the event, Lovlina won bronze medal for India.
On the other hand, Jamuna Boro, who hails from Assam’s Dhekiajuli under Sonitpur district, also settled for bronze after her defeat in the semifinal match of the AIBA World Boxing Championship.
However, this was the first senior world boxing championship for Jamuna.

Informing about Jamuna Boro settling for broze, union minister (independent charge) for sports and youth affairs Kiren Rijiju on his Twitter handle on Saturday stated: “Our women boxers are on a roll, even as Majestic @MangteC wins the 8th medal in a world championship, setting a record. Debutant Jamuna Boro wins a bronze and Manju fights for gold.”

The union sports minister congratulated the Indian boxers terming them “super women” for “making us proud and inspiring girls to play sport”.
Regarding debutant Jamuna Boro’s effort in the semifinal of the game, the BFI on its Twitter handle stated: “Fine run for @Jamunaboro1 comes to an end as she goes down 0-5 in the SF to win a Bronze Medal on debut at the #AIBAWorldBoxingChampionship 2019 edition.

Jamuna Boro lost 5:0 to Huang Hsiao-Wen of Taiwan in the 54 kg category.
Jamuna went down 28-29, 28-29, 27-30, 27-30, 27-30 to Huang Hsiao-Wen.
Lovlina Borgohain lost 29-29, 29-28, 27-30, 29-28, 28-29 to Yang Liu.
In a video, available on the social media, Jamuna Boro after the semifinal match said, “I was happy with my bouts today. This was my first senior world championship.”
“I have settled for bronze here. I tried my level best to do well. My coach has also told me that I played well.”
“I had some lapses for which I lost the game. But I will fix the lapses after discussions with the senior following my return to India. I will try to do better next time. I will do more hard work,” she added.
