Assam will soon have a product pipeline between India and Myanmar to transport petroleum product from Northeast to the neighbouring country.
Assam industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Friday told reporters that the capacity of two refineries in Assam, the Numaligarh Refinery and Bongaigaon Refinery are augmented following which India can export petroleum products to Myanmar.
“The work for Barauni in Bihar to Guwahati in Assam pipeline work has started by GAIL India Limited. The project will require over Rs 6000 Crore investment,” Patowary said.
Giving details about the other projects in Assam, the Minister said that the government is also planning to set up steel and rod unit with investment of Rs 900 crore.
“Our government is also planning to set up Pharma Park in Sipajhar, Textile Park in Jagiroad. PepsiCo India is setting up a unit in Rampur with an investment of Rs 200 crore,” Patowary said.
“We are also in the process of setting up Jogighopa multimodal logistic hub, which is expected to connect Northeast with South East Asian countries. The project will involve cost of Rs 600 crore,” he added
The minister said that the government is also in talks with the ITC so that bamboo from Assam could be sourced to use for matchbox and agarbatti sticks Assam.
