A special performance of the Air Warrior Drill Team (AWDT) and the Air Force Band was held on Sunday in Assam’s Tezpur.

The performance for the general public which was part of of the diamond jubilee celebration of Indian Air Force Station, Tezpur was held at Church Field.

Besides other dignitaries, the event was graced by Sonitpur deputy commissioner Narshing Pawar and Air Commodore, Tezpur Air Force station, Tezpal Singh.

Briefing the media persons, Air Commodore, Tezpur Air Force Station, Tejpal Singh said the Air Warrior Drill Team was formed in 2004 to project a dynamic and vibrant image of the Indian Air Force.

It is the first-of-its-kind amongst all military and para-military forces in India as it performs unique advanced drill movements with rifles fixed with live bayonets, he said.

“AWDT has come a long way since its first demonstration to the chief of the air staff at commanders conference at Head Quarter training Command on November 24, 2004,” he said.

“Till date, AWDT has given more than 250 performances across the span of the country from Awantipur in the north to Portblair in south and from Chabua in east to Jaisalmer in the west, he further added.

In 2009, AWDT has performed at Sri Lanka with the Sri Lankan Air force drill team.

The team was also in the Independence Day celebrations of Mauritius.

In a short span of time, AWDT has emerged as the Pride of the Indian Air Force and has been complimented as the ‘Ground ambassador of IAF.

The Air Commodore also added the Indian Air Force station, Tezpur was established on September 29, 1959 and the diamond jubilee event is being celebrated with a month-long event.
