Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retired) BD Mishra during his visit to Longding on Monday urged the people of Arunachal to fight against gun culture and stop poppy cultivation.

In his maiden tour of the district as the head of the State, the Governor interacted with government officers, Panchayat Raj Institute members and Gaon Burhas.

The Arunachal Governor said, “For development, there must be a sense of security and peaceful environment.”

“It is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure that there is conducive environment for implementation of welfare projects and programmes,” he said, adding, “Do not shy away for your responsibilities if you want your society, State and Nation to progress and develop.”

The Governor stated that gun culture has never benefited anyone. He urged upon the people to take steps to bring back the misguided youth to main stream society.

Strongly advocating against poppy cultivation, the Governor said that drug addiction is destroying the whole society.

He urged upon the people to stop the poppy cultivation, while suggesting for alternative cash crop programmes.

The Governor also advised the people, particularly the Gaon Burhas to ensure immunization in order to achieve elimination of measles and control Rubela by 2020.

The Governor visited the Community Health Centre, Longding and Government Higher Secondary School, Longding.

Addressing the students, the Governor advised to excel in their academics, maintain discipline, and do good sports and extra co curriculum activities and prepare themselves for bright future. He also motivated them to take a solemn pledge to stand against opium and poppy cultivation and gun culture.

Earlier, on his arrival at Longding, the Governor and the First Lady of the State Neelam Misra were received by Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh Malik and Superintendent of Police Rohit Meena.

Later the Governor left for Khonsa, the district Headquarters of Tirap district.
