In a sensational incident, a driver of a dumper truck was electrocuted to death in No 2 Ajagarh village under Mazbat police station in Assam’s Udalguri district on Thursday evening.

The tipper bearing registration number AS-26-C-5417 was returning after unloading stones at a road project when the heavy vehicle came in contact with high powered 11 Kilo Volt electric power transmission line resulting in the death of the driver.

He has been identified as one Khera Basumatari and aged around 35 years.

The handyman managed to escape in the nick of the time.

The situation turned worse when locals in large number surrounded the body of the deceased, voicing against the lackdaiscal attitude of the power department.

The power transmission lines were found hanging at around four metres height against departmental norms of 15-20 metres height.

Later,Udalguri deputy superintendent of police (HQ), M Islam along with Mazbat revenue circle officer,Dhritiman Das rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers.

The body of the driver was later retrieved and kept at Mazbat police station.
