A Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan was thrashed by public in uniform when he allegedly attempted to rape a woman in a moving train in between Rowta and Mazbat railway station in Assam’s Udalguri district.

The incident took place at around 3:15 pm on Tuesday.

The jawan identified as P R Shukla who hails from Uttar Pradesh allegedly attempted to rape the woman in the washroom of the Rangia bound Murkongselek-Rangia train.

When the incident came to light angry public surrounded and thrashed him at Udalguri railway station.

“The jawan has been handed over to Tangla Government Railway Police (GRP) as it comes under their jurisdiction and he is currently kept at Tangla GRP Investigation Centre,” said Udalguri officer-in-charge, Narayan Patangia.
