Bangladesh information minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has given a proposal to Tripura government to set up a ‘Mukti Joddha’ monument in the State.

He also said that the monument will attract the tourists from Bangladesh and it will boost the tourism industry in Tripura.

During the 1971 liberation war of Bangladesh, Tripura played a significant role.

The ‘Mukti Jodhhas’ (Bangladeshi fighters) took shelter in this State and they made this land their base camp.

Apart from that more than 15 lakhs Bangladeshi people had taken shelter in Tripura as refugee during the time of war.

A Bangladesh delegation team led by Dr Hasan Mahmud came to Agartala two days ago and on Monday they had a meeting with chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

In that meeting information minister of Bangladesh has given that proposal.

The delegation team talked with chief minister about the waterways between Tripura and Bangladesh, Agartala-Akhaura rail connectivity and border haats.

Later Dr Hasan Mahmud told that the relation between Tripura and Bangladesh is in peak now under the leadership of two Prime Ministers of two countries.

He said the Tripura government is taking action against drugs and other contraband’s and it is also helping Bangladesh.

Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “During the meeting with Biplab Deb, we have discussed on how both the country will celebrate centenary birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman.”

Mahmud told, “Connectivity is the base of development. Without connectivity, no country can develop.”

Biplab Kumar Deb said, “The state government has planned to construct a museum on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman at Agartala.”

On Monday evening Bangladesh delegation had a dinner at chief minister’s residence where other Cabinet ministers were also present.
