Assam NRC data list was made offline from its official website due to non-renewal of contract with the IT firm Wipro.

Nineteen members of a freedom fighter’s family have found that their names missing from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list.

This was claimed by a person named Abdul Samad Chowdhury hailing from Kaurbaha village in Kamrup Rural district of Assam.

Chowdhury said that his grandfather Ahmed Ali was a freedom fighter who served in the British Army for a year and later joined the Indian freedom movement.

He also added that the names of 19 members of his family have been excluded from the final NRC list despite having all documents.

However, the names of his mother and sister have been included in the draft as well as final NRC list.

Chowdhury claimed that their names have been left out of the final NRC list even after belonging to a family of a freedom fighter which is a sufficient proof that they are Indian citizens.

Chowdhury, who is a AIUDF leader, claimed that he along with his family members also went to Nagrik Sewa Kendra (NSK) Nagaon where they were asked to produce school pass certificates and assured that the issue will soon be solved.

He also said that it is a matter of insult for his family that their names have been left out of the final NRC even after submission of all necessary documents.

Assam on Saturday finally got its updated version of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with a total of 3,11,21,004 persons found eligible for inclusion in the final list.

A total of 19,06,657 persons including those who did not submit claims have failed to make it to the final NRC list.
