The Rotaract Club of Guwahati Luit has geared up to come up with an Anti-Drug Campaign across Assam in a bid to curb illegal intake and substance abuse in the State.

As illegal intake and substance abuse has become a big menace amongst the youth of Assam.

The club will launch ‘Mukti–Up For Hope, Down for Dope’ campaign with a motto of ‘Drug Free Youth’ in the memory of late Justice B.P. Saraf, who was the Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir High Court.

The campaign will be launched by Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on August 28, 2019 at Don Bosco School, Panbazar with host of eminent personalities in attendance from Legislature, Executive and Judiciary.

The campaign, supported by P.D Pasari Foundation, Assam Roofing and Star Cement, is chaired by Rtr. Shivam Saraf & Rtr. Tushar Jalan as the advisor.

The rising trend of drug abuse among youth, more particularly amongst the student community is very shocking and alarming.

In next 12 months, the club will be focusing on 6 educational institutions and cover 10000 youth directly or indirectly.

In order to informing about the campaign, a conference was organized by the Rotaract Club which was addressed by singer Maniraj Hazarika, Tusher Jalan and Shivam Saraf.

The campaign would be covering the youth in educational instructions and colleges.

Various surveys, reports of the government and NGOs indicate that Guwahati has become a major hub of drugs intake amongst youth in recent years due to easy availability of the drugs which is ruining lives on daily basis.

The campaign would be a completely different one as the organizers would be using different and innovative ways to reach out to the students at various educational institutions and colleges, said a press communiqué.

The campaign will include various activities including music, drama, dance, interactive seminars and such activities will physically and mentally involve the students instead of lectures or scary campaign.
