A 16-year-old girl was raped by a youth at Kalaigaon of Udalguri district.
According to reports, the youth has been identified as 22-year-old Nayan Sarma.
He is an inhabitant of Borjolah village under Tangla Police Station in Udalguri district.
The youth was caught by locals at the girl’s residence on Tuesday last.
Later, Kalaigaon police rescued both of the youth and the victim girl.
Based on a complaint lodged by the parents of the girl, the police arrested the youth.
The police have imposed charges under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The arrested youth was produced before the Udalguri court which remanded him to the judicial custody on Wednesday.
At a time when the State has witnessed growth in crimes against women and children, another incident of a minor’s rape has been reported in Udalguri district.
It may be mentioned that in the last week of November last year, a 10-year-old girl was raped by a married man at Kalaigaon area in Udalguri district.
It was reported that 37-year-old Kandarpa Chowdhury, a resident of Jengrajhar village under Kalaigaon Police Station, a father of a child, raped an adopted minor girl of the same village at the latter’s residence on November 17, 2018.
The man was arrested by police after the family members of the victim child lodged an FIR.
