The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has planned to provide free Wi-Fi facility in more railway stations under it.

The NFR authority has already provided free Wi-Fi facilities in 68 railway stations.

The free Wi-Fi facility was introduced by the railway authorities few years back in order to attract people, who avail railway service.

Availing Wi-Fi facility, the railway passengers can access free internet.

Informing this on its Twitter handle on Sunday, the NFR on Its Twitter handle stated: “NFR now provides free Wi-Fi in as many as 68 stations…many more being covered soon.”

“Just reach the station, log in and you have free internet at your fingertips,” it added.

According to media reports, till the first week of April this year, RailTel has provided free high speed Wi-Fi service to 1,500 railway stations across India.

As part of the Narendra Modi government’s ‘Digital India’ initiative, RailTel continues to provide free Wi-Fi service to railway passengers.

The local people near the railway stations also can access the free Wi-Fi facility.

RailTel Corporation of India is a PSU under the Ministry of Railways.

RailTel, which focuses on providing broadband and VPN services, has a record of providing free Wi-Fi service in 500 stations within 7 days.

In order to provide Wi-Fi facility at 4,791 B, C, D and E category station, the RailTel has also reportedly tied up with Tata Trusts.

A media report quoted RailTel chairman and managing director Puneet Chawla as saying, “We are now targeting the smaller stations and striving to complete the project by the year-end.”

He also stated: The Indian Railways has taken the initiative of providing free Wi-Fi at the stations so that not only the rail users but the local populace also can benefit from it.”
