Assam Police has been honoured with the Social Media for Empowerment Award for Community Mobilization for its social media safety awareness campaign #TheThinkCampaign at a function in New Delhi on Friday.

The award ceremony was organized by Digital Empowerment Foundation, a non-profit organization working for improving digital access for all sections of people across the country.

The award was received on behalf of the Assam police by additional director general of police (ADGP) Harmeet Singh in New Delhi.

Assam Police on Friday stated on its official Twitter handle that responsible use of social media can ‘a force for the greater good’ of the masses.

Assam Police on its Twitter handle stated: “Social Media, used responsibly is always a force for the greater good. We are delighted to announce that our #TheThinkCampaign won the coveted Social Media For Empowerment Award by @DEFindiafor Community Mobilisation. ADGP Harmeet Singh, received the award in Delhi, yesterday.”

In order to spread warnings and awareness among the public, Assam Police has always been doing so by describing every detail about the dangers of an issue in a witty and entertaining way using the hashtag #TheThinkCampaign on its official Twitter handle.

The tweets of Assam Police have always caught the attention of a large number of Twitter users with each of its tweets being hugely retweeted and garnering praise for its witty narration style.

The Social Media Empowerment awards are presented to honour individuals and organizations who have made an impact on the people with their best social media practices.

This year, Digital Empowerment Foundation honoured individuals and organizations through the Social Media Empowerment awards in various categories.

The categories are blogging, vlogging and storytelling, citizen media and journalism, community mobilization, communication, advocacy and development activism, social commerce, crowdsourcing and crowdfunding and social inclusion.
